Mental health and wellbeing in the workplace can be a huge cost to a business but it also bring many benefits. Employees with positive mental health can mean reduced staff absence and improved staff retention for businesses which brings positive economic benefits.
However, there is a cost of poor mental health with 1 in 6 employees currently experiencing mental health problems across Staffordshire. Being better prepared to support people can help to identify early signs of stress, anxiety and depression.
The 1-day course covers topics including identifying mental health conditions, providing advice and starting a conversation, stress and mental health conditions.
The course also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol and incorporates a First Aid for Mental Health Acton Plan and covers ways in which a positive health culture can be supported within a workplace.
Two delegate places were recently donated to Realise charity by Strategi Solutions, a company close to the heart of Realise, with CEO Wendy Dean, recently appointed to the Board of Realise charity.
Wendy said: “As a provider of Mental Health First Aid Training, and a board member of Realise charity, I was in discussions at a Board Meeting about mental health awareness. I decided to donate two free places to Aspire Housing (Realise is Aspire’s Charity) to support them with their awareness and to help promote the importance of Mental Health First Aiders in the Workplace.”
Realise charity work with local partners and agencies to deliver initiatives and programmes that help people to build resilience against and break down the causes of poverty.
