During the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve been leading the Newcastle-under-Lyme Support Network, helping people in our communities with essential food supplies, prescriptions, emergency maintenance and phone calls. Over 800 requests for support have been dealt with by our team and volunteers – each day putting people first and working together with other charities, community groups and council services.
Working closely with Team Chatterley Group, we received a referral from Staffordshire County Council for a gentleman who needed help in the local community.
Having fallen on hard times, he needed some support to get him back on his feet. Having spoken to the gentleman, we managed to get an idea of the gravity of the situation and we teamed up with Team Chatterley Group and it’s team member, Amy Stephens.
The gentleman was supported with a range of household items which enabled him to live comfortably. These items included a bed, base, towels, washing machine, settee, TV and more.
The gentleman who lives in the property has suffered a great deal from the loss of his father, a relationship breakdown and being let down by close friends. The items that were gifted have helped to completely change his life.
He stated: “I’ve had a rough start. I’ve been sofa surfing to living with friends, it’s been such a tough time for me. I’ve been homeless twice. Being homeless was such a horrible experience it’s something I would never like to experience again. I used to work and COVID has just destroyed everything. I can’t wait to see my son and my little girl again, I lost absolutely everything.
You guys have given me everything I’ve ever wanted in the past 8 months, you should have wings, I can’t thank you enough. I feel like some people don’t listen and you guys have just come and have given me a reason to keep going.”
Being able to help members of our community is what makes Realise charity invaluable. Many people in our local area need support and reassurance to get back on their feet and get their lives back to normal.
We wish this gentleman all the best on his journey and we give thanks to Staffordshire County Council and Team Chatterley Group for their support.
