Volunteers from Realise charity recently took to Trentham Gardens to support the Donna Louise ‘Taking Flight’ project – helping to add 5,000 ceramic butterflies to an amazing art installation within the Italian Gardens.
The group of Realise Ambassadors, including ten colleagues from across Realise charity, PM Training and Aspire Housing spent the day volunteering, working with the project team to help install the ceramic butterflies.
The Butterflies is a bold collaboration between Staffordshire businesses, the local ceramics industry, education, charity, art and engineering – all working together to bring about the largest ever locally produced ceramic art installation in Stoke-on-Trent.
It is a unique fusion of art and engineering consisting of 5000 ceramic butterflies. Every business and individual collaborating to bring the art installation to life has donated time, expertise and often materials to raise significant funds for The Donna Louise. ‘Taking Flight’ captures the spirit of swarming butterflies – embracing life in the moment, like the precious lives of the children and young people at The Donna Louise.
“It was a pleasure volunteering alongside the Realise Charity Ambassadors building ‘Taking Flight’. It was humbling to see how many people had cared enough to sponsor a butterfly, the impact is there for all to see.”
Trish Roberts, Realise Ambassadors Chair
As a collaborative partner, both Realise charity and PM Training has supported the project with funds and expertise to help the installation teams.
Part of the volunteering team, Trish Roberts, Realise Ambassador Chair, said: “It was a pleasure volunteering alongside the Realise Charity Ambassadors building ‘Taking Flight’. It was humbling to see how many people had cared enough to sponsor a butterfly, the impact is there for all to see. Most importantly each butterfly has helped The Donna Louise expand its services to support teenagers into their adult life. North Staffordshire and its people are truly wonderful.”
Each year Realise charity work with a variety of local partners to increase the support for people and communities across Staffordshire.
Hannah Molloy, Corporate Fundraising Manager for Realise charity, added: “It has been so wonderful to be a part of such a fantastic project, to see this level of community spirit in action is a truly amazing thing. It really showcases what partnership working can achieve and we are committed to supporting projects like this that make a real difference to peoples lives. Working alongside the likes of JCB, KMF, Johnson Tiles, Patera Engineering and Gladman Developments to name just a few has been truly inspiring.”
